Submission to Oireachtas Education Committee on the Future of STEM Education
The IMTA was invited to make a submission to the Joint Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, as part of the Committee’s examination of the Future of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) in Irish Education.
Our submission includes a range of recommendations aimed at improving the teaching and learning of mathematics in post-primary education. We have focused on several key areas, including the need for greater support and resources for STEM teachers, have highlighted many issues of concern in relation to Junior and Leaving Certificate mathematics and encouraging diversity and inclusion in STEM fields, and the role of assessment in enhancing STEM education.
We believe that our recommendations, if implemented, can help to ensure that Ireland remains a world leader in STEM education and that our students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to succeed in the 21st century economy. The full document can be accessed here
