Record-Breaking Success for Ireland at IMO 2025

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the world’s most prestigious mathematics competition for school students, with 110 countries competing in 2025. Ireland first took part in 1988, and this year’s return to Australia proved to be a landmark moment for the Irish team.

Our six contestants delivered Ireland’s best-ever results in 38 years of participation:

These results set several records for Ireland:

Behind these achievements lay months of dedicated preparation through the Irish Mathematical Olympiad (IrMO), enrichment programmes across six university centres, and intensive training camps in Ireland and Australia. The success reflects the commitment of students, teachers, the Irish Mathematical Trust, and the many supporters who make Olympiad training possible.

Ireland’s IMO journey in 2025 shows what can be achieved with collaboration, creativity, and perseverance.

Well done to all of your teachers, mentors and parents who have guided you on the path to become the great mathematicians that you are.
